Dr. John Koonz, AuD, Doctor of Audiology/Clinic Director
John Koonz, Au.D, received his Masters degree from the University of Minnesota and his Doctorate in Audiology from the Arizona School of Health Sciences. He did his internship at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit Michigan. Originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada, Dr. Koonz moved to Tallahassee and founded Hearing & Balance Associates of NW FL in 2003. Dr. Koonz has served Tallahassee residents for over 15 years in a private locally owned independent Audiology practice. He is not affiliated with any hearing aid chain, partnership, or buying group. Dr. Koonz is free to help Tallahassee residents choose the hearing care plan best suited for their hearing loss, listening needs, and budget. Dr. Koonz and wife Vivian have a pet named Dozer and he comes with them everyday to the office.
Mrs. Vivian Koonz, Practice Manager
Vivian was born and raised in Manila, Philippines and has been a Tallahassee resident since 2006. She graduated in the Philippines with a degree in Computer System Design and Programming. Her interests include: the latest technology, web design, fashion, yoga, and biking. Dr. Koonz and Vivian have been married since 2013. Vivian has been with Hearing & Balance Associates since 2011. She has several roles at the practice including answering the phone, billing, marketing, and website design. Dr. Koonz and Vivian brings their pet named Dozer and Taffy at the office everyday.
Rae Spelz, Au.D., Doctor of Audiology
Dr. Rachel “Rae” Spelz completed her undergraduate education at the Abilene Christian University in Abilene, TX where she received a Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders. Upon completion of her doctoral degree in Audiology at Lamar University, Dr. Spelz relocated to Florida to complete her residency. Dr. Spelz’s clinical experience includes hearing aid fitting and verification, assessment and treatment of adult vestibular disorders, veteran disability assessments, and newborn hearing screenings. Dr. Spelz enjoys working with her patients and their families in order to help patients become more active in their daily lives through better hearing.
Parker Fleming, Patient Care/Billing Coordinator
Parker was born in Orlando, FL and moved to Crawfordville, FL when he was just two years old, he recently just moved to Tallahassee in 2021 with his dog Onyx. Parker has been in the healthcare field for a little over 4 years and joined Hearing & Balance in June 2021. Parker’s interests Include: Being on the water, going to the beach, fishing with his dad, riding his motorcycle and building and fixing computers.
Dozer & Taffy, Greeter
Dozer is a French Bulldog. He was born in November 2017 and has been the greeter at Hearing & Balance Associates since he was 12 weeks old. Dozer started at HBA in February 2018. You will see him in the hallway welcoming patients as they walk to the testing room. Dozer's favorite past times are sleeping and walking in the park. Patients love Dozer and he loves the attention he receives from them. Dozer is very friendly and loves treats especially bananas, cucumbers, and carrots. He brings smiles and joy to everyone at the office!!
